Publix Pavilion is home to Greenwood’s newest shopping development serving as home to the community’s premier food retailer, Publix.  This development sits on a total of 12 acres, some of which was previously developed creating a challenge with new construction.  Prior to this project, this site featured two outparcels, Advance Auto Parts and Greenwood Promenade, two city streets, utility infrastructure, and a surface detention pond to the serve the existing development.  This project was unique in that the existing outparcels needed to remain operational and uninterrupted during the new construction.  To make the project feasible the developer agreed to build a new Advance Auto Parts Store on site in order to convert the existing site to parking.  The existing detention pond was filled in to create space for the Publix building and associated drives.  The filling of the existing pond required the construction of a 100,000 cubic foot underground stormwater detention system to manage the increase in runoff created by the new development.  The underground facility is the largest of its kind in Greenwood County.  The responsibilities of Heaner Design Group included boundary, topographic and utility location surveys, site planning, site design, permitting and construction quality observation, and post-construction as-built survey of the development.
